The Art of Yoga

We all know how important exercise is to a healthy life but as we age, it is often difficult to figure out constructive exercises because of arthritis, aching joints, or pain.  Mount Pleasant offers Yoga as a perfect choice for exercise and relaxation for the residents.

Participants are encouraged to challenge their bodies but to be safe and avoid pain.  Victoria Nadel leads classes in various stretches, movements, exercises, and games.  One favorite game is tossing around a large beach ball to work on building strength and coordination.  It is always surprising who has the fastest arm!

Yoga also provides residents with a supplement to physical therapy.  Many times, after a stay in the hospital or rehabilitation facility, residents come back needing to exercise certain areas that have lost their strength.  Medicare provides Physical Therapists for a limited amount of time and Yoga can allow them to learn new techniques as well as practice old ones.

The benefits of exercise are infinite and Mount Pleasant Home is thrilled to have such an effective program.
