MATCH-UP
Interfaith Volunteers' Pet Pals Program
MATCH-UP Interfaith Volunteers' mission is to reduce isolation and
help elders and disabled adults remain independent by providing friendly
visitors, medical escorts, one-time assistance and educational programs.
To fulfill this mission, MATCH-UP recruits volunteers to visit isolated
elders and to accompany people to and from their doctor's appointments.
Mount Pleasant Home has been lucky enough to connect with this caring
group's Pet Pals program and we have two dog-owning volunteers who come
each week. Margo and her cocker spaniel, Peterson, have been
involved with this program and Mount Pleasant for over two years.
They
enjoy visiting with residents and exchanging fun stories about man's best
friend. Peterson even knows exactly where to go for the dog treats
and performs little tricks for the residents to get his just reward!
A newer volunteer couple with the Pet Pals program is Bob and his little
poodle Nicky. Nicky is a lively dog who liked to challenge the
territory of Mount Pleasant's former house cat. She is known to run
and jump onto the laps of any resident who will give her love and
attention. |
