Yoga
Stretch Classes
The word "yoga" comes from the Sanskrit word "yuj" which means to yoke
or bind and is often interpreted as "union" or a method of discipline.
It is an ancient tradition of thought, movement, and consciousness, and,
unlike stretching or fitness, yoga is more than just physical postures
because it connects the movement of the body and fluctuations of the mind
to the rhythm of our breath.
For our residents,
Journey2u
yoga instructor Barbara Borman uses a gentle yoga technique called
Hatha. During these classes, residents use their breath and slowly
paced movements of the body to stretch and carefully challenge the body.
Some
residents have difficulties with the various stretches, but when paired
with a student volunteer, each resident is able to understand the
instructions and participate in the stretch.
