Travels
in India
Administrative Manager Phil Braudaway-Bauman and his family spent 35
years living in India as missionaries and they brought their experiences
to Mount Pleasant Home to share with the residents and staff. The
Rev. and Mrs. Bauman met and married in India while they worked in the
most western part of the country with the Bhil people. Both learned
the language Gujarati of their state called Gujarat (you can find its
location on the map below in the west colored purple) and with pictures,
stories, arts and crafts, musical instruments, and saris, Rev. and Mrs.
Bauman have been enlightening us all for several years running!
These
pictures show Mrs. Bauman dressing resident Charlotte Gridiron and staff member
Stephanie Bottner in the
national dress: a Sari. These beautiful pieces wrap around the
women's waists with each layer being tucked into the next until at the
last, the most decorative part is set across the shoulder to flow down
either her back or front. The fabrics are each so unique and
exquisitely made that it is such a treat to be able to to see, touch,
and wear them! |
