Resident Maggie McKenna turns 100 years old on July 4, 2007!
You will not find a more spry,
entertaining centenarian than her. Maggie spends her days at Mount
Pleasant helping the office and personal care staff, taking care of the
cat and fellow residents, and entertaining everyone by playing the piano
at coffee hour. She often assists other residents getting down to the
dining room and occasionally will accompany someone on a doctor’s
appointment before her soap operas begin in the afternoon. She just won’t
slow down and we are all so grateful for her in our lives!
Maggie was
born on July 4,
1907 which makes her a real “Yankee Doodle Dandy.” A grand 100th birthday
celebration was held in the Mount Pleasant dining room on Sunday, July 1.
Residents, friends, and staff enjoyed a special luncheon followed by an
enormous cake! Maggie's daughter, Mary, and granddaughter, Jennifer, came
to join in the festivities.
Framed commendations and
congratulations from Boston Mayor Tom Menino and the Massachusetts House
of Representatives were presented to her. Mayor Menino declared her
birthday, July 4, 2007, to be “Maggie McKenna Day” in the city of Boston.
Executive Director, Merlin Southwick, and Maggie celebrated “Maggie
McKenna Day” by venturing over to the Boston Esplanade on the Charles
River to participate in the July 4th festivities which included a concert
and fireworks. VIP reserved seats arranged through the Boston Private Bank
awaited them. Maggie was even interviewed on TV!
Tired from the excitement the next day,
Maggie took it easy, but was happy to accept a birthday card from
President Bush and another from Willard Scott from NBC.
Happy
100th Birthday, Maggie!
