- This project will create
approximately 67 construction related jobs.
Expanded housing
opportunities
Mount Pleasant
Home will provide 44 renovated bedrooms and create 16 new bedrooms, each
with private bath, for its 66% elderly low-income clients- the majority of
which are below 30% of median income. In addition, it will have a 12%
homeless set-aside. Though Mount Pleasant Home is currently occupied,
old mechanical systems, and small rooms make the existing housing less
than ideal. Currently, no affordability restrictions currently exist on
the development. The new development plans for Mount Pleasant Home will
preserve an important elderly housing facility and record affordability
restrictions on the development.
Improved site is a neighborhood asset
Open to residents of Mount Pleasant, their families, and
neighbors. Mount Pleasant Home is seeking to transform 1.3 acres of
vacant, wooded property at its site in Jamaica Plain into a planned
community open space including a rain garden, pathways, and spaces for
passive recreation.
Local youth
involvement
Partnering with the Hyde Square Task Force, Mount Pleasant Home
residents, neighbors and local teenagers will work together to plan,
develop and maintain this unique urban ecosystem and at the same time
build and strengthen our community.Support for local businesses
The development is located
between the Mission Hill, Hyde Square and Jamaica Plain Centre business
areas. The residents will contribute to the use of local retail and
service establishments.
Public service
Mount
Pleasant Home regularly hosts community meetings such as The Bynner Street
Neighborhood Crime Watch in its large centrally located living room. |
